I have a PHD in Ecology from the Australian National University, Canberra. I have taught ecology and statistics to both undergraduate and masters/PHD students for more than 10 years, and continue to publish scientific papers of great application in natural and managed systems. By virtue of my degrees, teaching and work across multiple continents/regions at both the Uni and government agency levels, I have several years of hands-on experience in helping graduate students in NZ, Australia, Africa and Brunei (SE Asia) to design and analyse field, social and laboratory data.
In my teaching philosophy, I ask, why and what questions do you hope to address? Then I assist in the design of the experiments ensuring that factors in them are what you can explain and are not too many. In analysing your data, I suggest and guide you on use and meaning of outputs from easy to use/understand software (eg, SPSS, JMP, Minitab, Genstat, Primer, or even EXCEL) rather than making you a geek immediately in use of a more sophisticated software, like R (which I think, because you need to write codes, can be daunting to a novice :-)).
