Math is a challenging subject because it is also a language, and I am an interpreter! In my experience, students quickly gain skill and confidence when the language is described in a way they understand.

My approach as a tutor is patient, encouraging, and focused on building understanding and confidence. I like to identify where a student is getting stuck, break the problem into smaller pieces, and explain the concept in a way that connects to what they already know.
A typical lesson begins with a quick recap of fundamental information, followed by guided examples, practice or homework problems, feedback and celebrated progress. I encourage students to speak and write their thinking so we can strengthen both their math skills and their confidence.
