About Candace
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in the fourth grade. There was a student teacher in my class that year that made the learning fun and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. While attending college I worked in my local school district as an instructional assistant. I had the opportunity to work with one student and reteach him skills that the teacher taught him. I made the learning fun and taught him the way I would want someone to teach my own special needs son. When I graduated college and got my teaching license I applied for teaching jobs. I taught at a school that was not a good fit for me so I voluntarily resigned from the position and moved into subbing again in my local public school district. I have been subbing now for the last 2 and a half years and I am considered some students "favorite sub". These students get excited when they see me. I maintain professional boundaries when working with students. When they have questions or need help I ask them questions to see what they already know. Then guide them in the direction that will help find the answers to their questions without me giving them the right answer.

I would teach students based on their abilities. I would first see what they already know about English and then go from there on where to start. So for example if the student only knows their letters, sounds, and can form some words. I would teach them how to find those letters and words in a book. Then we would begin to work on reading a book. At the same time if they are struggling with spelling we would also practice some spelling words as well. We would do this by rainbow writing and then using the word in a sentence. I would teach these skills to students of any grade level because students have varying abilities and may need this type of help.
