I have experience teaching kids 2-13 years old English (creative writing, reading, spelling) I use play-based methods to help each student flourish in a non-judgmental classroom environment.

About Shanaya
I am currently a third-year undergraduate student studying at the University of British Columbia. Moreover, I am the recipient of the International Student Scholarship offered by my university. My passion for teaching is demonstrated through my work with underprivileged youth in Cambodia and the Philippines. In addition, I enjoy teaching poetry to children as I am a published author of a poetry book as well as have performed poetry across Asia and North America. I have over 4 years of teaching public speaking and debate and have won awards in the Hong Kong inter-school public speaking festival consecutively for 10 years as well as been a gold medalist in debate at the World's Scholar's Cup.

My goal is to provide a fun and engaging classroom environment for each student so that they can develop a genuine love for learning. Hence, I offer play-based methods to teach kids lesson material, this includes storytelling activities, arts & crafts and song & dance. As a teacher, I understand that learning is not a 'one size fits all' Hence my lesson plans are tailored specifically to meet each student's individual academic needs.
