About Haley
Haley Lauritzen first fell in love with the elegant black and white keys of the piano at age five. After listening to her mother play the baby grand Baldwin piano in her childhood home and dancing to the sounds of Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, and Ludwig Van Beethoven, her mother sat her down on her fifth birthday and gave her the most priceless gift: free piano lessons for life. To say this day was a monumental turning point is a severe understatement.
In the winter of 2023, Haley auditioned for the piano performance program at CU Boulder, and was admitted under a generous scholarship. She currently studies with Dr. Robert Hjelmstad and has performed many virtuosic solo works in Colorado, Italy, and Florida. She accompanies the CU Boulder Campus Orchestra where she has premiered an orchestral work of rising composer Alexander LaMotte, performed the demanding Gustav Mahler Piano Quartet in A Minor, and has been selected for a solo debut playing the second movement of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto, which you will hear this evening. In addition, she has been to multiple piano festivals, including the Miami International Piano Festival in Miami Beach, Florida and the Brancaleoni International Music Festival where she made her international debut in Piobbico, Italy. Here she performed both solo and chamber works, leaning into her love of both collaborative and solo performance work.
In addition to her regular performances and the accomplishments that have come with them, Haley regularly teaches a full online studio of kiddos and adults alike. Her love for teaching and pedagogy is powered by the goal to pass on her knowledge that she has so gratefully received to the next generation of performing artists. She is also involved with the Music Teacher’s National Association Collegiate Chapter at CU Boulder and with the Delta Rho Chapter of MuPhi Epsilon, carrying out values of friendship, music, and harmony. She is excited for where her musical future will take her and hopes to always keep learning, falling in love with the piano for the rest of her life.
