About Mathew
I grew up on a farm and was destined for Art college, but wanted something more. I joined the Air Force at 17 and was trained to repair over 30,000 different types of electronic transmitting equipment from basic telephones to 10,000-watt amplifiers. I became interested in computers and was awarded a commission as a Cyber Warfare Officer where I performed just about every cybersecurity job such as network administration, programmer/tester, and hacker.
I retired after 23 years of service and have been teaching cybersecurity topics for the last 7 years. I spent 5 years teaching underprivileged students fundamentals such as Java, C++, A+, Network+, Linux+, Security+, CEH and many more.
I sponsor CTF college teams and am the lead judge for the Northeast Division of the College Cyber Defense Competition.

I believe that hands-on learning is the greatest way to learn cyber. A typical lesson plan involves:
- Vocabulary
- Theory
- Do what I do
- Try on your own
I've been teaching anyone who wants to learn topics in cyber or electronics since I was 11 or 12 years old. I've made all the mistakes one can make so you don't have to. I've tutored homeschooled children as young as 9 in basic electronic theory and older folks (80+) in Linux.
