About Jake
I began my career within history just as a history buff in high school with a passing interest in the topic. I eventually decided to pursue a degree in history during my undergraduate career and began to find a deeper appreciation for the nuances within the subject that I was not taught before entering college. At this time, I was also able to participate in an archaeological excavation as a trench supervisor, which gave me a more hands-on experience. As the trench supervisor, I had to write an excavation journal that recorded what went on during the dig, which required me to think more critically about what we were doing and what we were finding. I am currently studying for my master's degree in Archaeology and will be participating in another excavation this August.

History can be incredibly fun to study and offers something of interest for everyone. My goal as a tutor is to get students interested in the subject by finding where their interests lie and empowering them to ask more questions about it and to come to conclusions on their own. For lessons, I preface the topic with some broad information and a couple questions to get students to think more critically about the information I'm presenting. During lessons, I also like to add more colorful anecdotes or pieces of information that bring the past to life in a way that simply reading through a textbook could not. My lessons are aimed at students in high school or studying for an undergraduate degree in a history-related field.
