About Gwen

A bit about myself – I graduated from the IB programme in 2021 and scored 43/45. I took English A: Language & Literature, Business Management, History, Math, Indonesian and BIology. Currently, I am reading for a Bachelor's in Biomedical Science focusing on Medical Biotechnology.

I am passionate about learning and find the biggest joy in helping others with their studies. I am fully aware that the school system is flawed in that it does not cater to all types of learners. Remember that struggling at school does not make you dumb! I am here to help those who may benefit from more unorthodox teaching.

About the lesson

My teaching style typically consists of presentation-type content with interactive quizzes (like pollEv and Kahoot) and a review of past paper questions at the end. However, this is adaptable depending on the student I am working with. In the first sessions, I try to get to know my student and understand their critical struggles with the subject. I modify my teaching style from there to fit their wants and needs! For things like IA, EE, and TOK help, I refer to google documents' comments feature a lot and discuss writing flow and structure with the student directly. I try to make the content more interesting and fun by explaining them in a way I think a particular student will understand better.

In the past, I have worked with non-profit organizations to help students with their school assignments, especially essay writing similar to or even for the IB curriculum. I am well versed in the syllabi of my IB HL subjects (Biology, Business Management, and English Lang&Lit) which has allowed me to be skilled in reviewing and guiding students in essay and report writing. Components like structure, flow, and vocabulary for academic writing are areas I am confident and well-versed in. I am actively pursuing a degree in biomedical science, this has further heightened my biology knowledge aswell as my ability to guide in writing good quality lab reports similar to that of science IAs in the IB curriculum.
