About Avery

My name is Avery! I live in New Jersey, and I am an aspiring actor. When I'm not tutoring, I'm working as a bartender to help pay my bills. I enjoy my work because I am a people person at heart. I've always said that if I weren't pursuing a career in the arts, I'd want to be a teacher. Tutoring allows me to pursue both goals. I love to help people learn. I was a complete nerd in school and absolutely loved my classes. I know how important it is to have a teacher who is passionate about their subject as well as their students' progress. Fun facts about me: I'm a dog person, I love mint chocolate chip ice cream, and my astrological sign is Taurus. In my free time, I like to listen to podcasts and go for walks. This upcoming fall, I plan to run the 2023 NYC marathon for the first time. I look forward to getting to know you!

About the lesson

I cater my lessons to my students. I can help proofread and paraphrase. I can give corrections and help the student study their grammar. At the same time, I can also offer structural feedback in reading an essay or outline, for instance, by giving advice on flow, syntax, and thought organization. I have also vast experience in script analysis and creative writing techniques.

During my undergraduate study, I was a TA for the English department despite not being an English major. I was able to hold office hours and offer support to my peers as they navigated their curricula.

I've worked with students of all ages and levels of English comprehension. I've received feedback that my teaching environment is "cheerful and fun," that I am prepared and punctual. I pride myself on setting a comfortable tone to help students learn without fear!
