About Samuel
Hi, I'm Sam! I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and I'm a recent graduate of the University of Washington. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA with a major in Landscape Architecture and a minor in Real Estate.
I'm looking to tutor because I enjoy helping students achieve their academic goals. I have prior tutoring experience in english and math, specifically with SAT prep as well having raised scores by over 150 points over only 5 sessions.
In my free time, I really love to surf but have recently started cooking more. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I like to consider myself a fun tutor with a pretty good gauge of outgoing-ness or if they want to talk. I'm a sociable guy and love to chat and meet new people, but also understand some people can be shy and just want to study. My main tutoring experience is students in 11th and 12th grade, and specifically with SAT prep, but I am open to helping out younger students with math too.
I like to start off by asking goals and expectations and create those together as a team. I then ask where students hope to see improvement and start creating a lesson plan.
My lessons are usually 1-2 hours depending on the subject. I like to assign homework the previous lesson, or have students bring in material that they would like to improve on.
We will usually spend the first part of class reviewing the material and what needs to be refined. I like to go through materials and ask students questions to understand where and why they might not understand what is happening.
After that we usually spend the middle portion of class going over specific problem types that are challenging, and diving into how to recognize patterns in the problems and solving methods.
The last part of class is spent reviewing both the materials and methods we learned to try and cement them in as tangible concepts.
