About Jonny
Hello! My name is Jonathan. I'm a graduate student at the University of Tennessee pursuing my master's and doctorate degrees in English Education.
I have been teaching in classrooms since 2017 and have been teaching English, full time, since 2019. During my time in the classroom, I've had the opportunity to work with all secondary grades from 5th-12th.
I believe students are most successful when the learning is centered around their own strengths and interests. I understand that this class can be particularly challenging for some... but it doesn't have to be awful!
As a tutor, I can guide you or your student to success by tailoring unique lessons to unique learning styles. We will work together to break down the learning tasks into manageable pieces. We will build upon the new knowledge to create a strong set of skills for English!

I began teaching English, full-time, in 2019. I have worked with middle school and high school students throughout my career. I have extensive experience in guiding students to success regardless of their academic levels or educational background.
I believe students are able to succeed in English regardless of their previous experience or their current challenges in the class.
Students are meant to connect to the content by leveraging their own strengths and interests in order to authentically engage in English skills.
A typical lesson plan from myself would look something like this:
Check-in: Review work from last session.
Warm Up: Find connections to the content with relatable access points.
Model/Explanation: Quickly discuss learning objective and model the skills needed to produce an exemplar.
Student-Centered Work: Student practices skills in the lesson with guided support as needed.
Wrap Up: Check student progress with a quick assessment for understanding.
Extend Learning: Look for opportunities for application of the new skills in school.
These lessons are for middle school, high school, and undergraduate college students.
