  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in writing and education began early in my academic journey, but it deepened significantly during graduate school as I worked intensively with peers on essays and research projects. I realized that many students struggle not because they lack intelligence, but because they’ve never been shown how to structure ideas, analyze evidence, and communicate clearly. I genuinely enjoy watching learners gain confidence, make connections, and succeed on their own terms. Private tutoring appealed to me because it allows for personalized pacing and deep engagement, helping students feel empowered rather than corrected.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less

I primarily teach writing skills, from foundational grammar and sentence structure to advanced academic and professional writing. I also support college-level critical thinking, application essays, and job-readiness writing, such as resumes and cover letters. I am passionate about helping learners transition from education to the workplace with purpose and impact.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I had an English teacher in high school who encouraged me to pursue my love of writing and challenged me to expand my talents.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Good tutoring isn’t about giving answers; it’s about building skills and confidence. A good tutor needs the following:
    • Empathy: Understanding where a learner is coming from and responding without judgment.
    • Patience: Allowing students time to think, to make errors, and to develop at their own pace.
    • Clarity: Breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps and using examples that resonate with the student.
    • Responsiveness: Adjusting methods based on what the student needs, not what I think they should need.
    • Encouragement: Helping learners trust their own voice and see progress, even when it’s incremental.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I was assisting one person with writing her first resume. She was nervous about the process because it was a new challenge. But I helped her build her confidence over time, and she let me know that she received a job offer using the resume I helped her write.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

For many students, writing feels personal, almost like an identity rather than a skill. One challenge is helping learners separate who they are from what they can improve. That means creating a space where mistakes are expected, analyzed, and used as tools for growth. Even for experienced writers, articulating abstract thoughts clearly can be difficult. That’s normal, but it does require patience and iterative practice, not just correction. My role is to make that process transparent, strategic, and empowering.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Outside of tutoring, I have a strong interest in advocating for social justice issues and empowering marginalized communities to advocate for themselves by partnering with and amplifying their voices.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

As a Superprof tutor, I bring intentionality and structure to every session. My approach is personalized, evidence-based, and rooted in real writing practice rather than abstract rules. I meet each student where they are, clarify where they want to go, and bridge that gap with clear frameworks, actionable feedback, and encouragement. I help learners become independent communicators, not just better writers on a given assignment. I am honored to help develop confident thinkers who can articulate ideas clearly in school, work, and life.
