About Theresa

Hello! My name is [Your Name], and I'm passionate about nurturing young minds and fostering creativity. I hold a degree and have extensive experience teaching children, where I've enjoyed watching them grow both academically and personally.

As a mother, I understand the importance of creating a supportive and engaging learning environment, both at home and in the classroom. I believe that education is not just about learning facts but about inspiring curiosity and a lifelong love for discovery.

In addition to my teaching career, I have a deep love for writing. Whether it's crafting imaginative stories or expressing emotions through poetry, writing has always been my creative outlet. I often weave these elements into my teaching, using storytelling and creative writing exercises to help children develop their language skills and explore their creativity.

I'm dedicated to making learning an exciting and enriching experience, and I'm always looking for new ways to connect with students and inspire them to reach their full potential.

I teach my students through exercises, lecture, and homework. This type of teaching would be best for middle school to high school levels.

My typical lesson plan is as follows:

Objectives:
Inspiration: Stimulate creativity and ideas for writing.
Story Structure: Understand and apply basic elements of story structure.
Character Development: Create detailed, engaging characters.
Descriptive Writing: Practice using vivid language and imagery.
Materials:
Writing materials (notebook, pen/pencil, or laptop)
Writing prompts or images for inspiration
Examples of short stories or excerpts
Flashcards with descriptive words (optional)
Warm-Up (10 minutes):
Creative Brainstorming:
Start with a quick creative exercise. For example:
Word Association: Say a word (e.g., "storm"), and the student quickly responds with the first word that comes to mind.
Five-Minute Free Write: Give the student a random prompt (e.g., "Write about a place where you feel most at peace") and let them write freely without worrying about grammar or structure.
Discussion:
Ask the student about their favorite stories, books, or movies.
Discuss what makes those stories compelling (e.g., plot, characters, setting).
Main Lesson Activities (40 minutes):
1. Story Structure Overview (10 minutes):

Introduction to Story Elements:
Discuss the basic elements of a story: beginning, middle, end, conflict, climax, and resolution.
Use a simple example or a short story to illustrate these elements.
Story Map Activity:
Have the student brainstorm a basic plot using a story map or outline.
Guide them in identifying the key points (e.g., who the protagonist is, what the conflict might be).
2. Character Development (10 minutes):

Character Creation:
Ask the student to create a character. Start with basics (name, age, appearance) and then delve deeper (background, motivations, fears).
Use a character worksheet or guide them through questions like "What does your character want the most?" or "What is their biggest secret?"
Character Dialogue:
Have the student write a short dialogue between their character and another character. Focus on making the conversation realistic and revealing character traits.
3. Descriptive Writing (10 minutes):

Descriptive Language Exercise:
Show the student a vivid image (e.g., a bustling market, a serene forest) and ask them to describe it using all five senses.
Encourage the use of metaphor, simile, and strong adjectives.
Rewrite a Scene:
Take a simple sentence (e.g., "The sun was setting") and ask the student to expand it into a descriptive paragraph.
Focus on building atmosphere and mood.
4. Writing Prompt (10 minutes):

Creative Writing Assignment:
Give the student a choice of writing prompts (e.g., "Write a story about a journey that changes the protagonist," "Describe a day in the life of an unusual character").
Allow them to write for 10 minutes, focusing on incorporating what they’ve learned about story structure, character development, and descriptive writing.
Peer Review or Discussion:
If time allows, discuss the student's writing or have them share their work. Provide feedback on strengths and areas to improve.
Cool Down (10 minutes):
Review and Reflection:
Recap the key elements of creative writing covered in the lesson.
Discuss what the student enjoyed most about the writing process and any challenges they faced.
Offer positive feedback and constructive criticism.
Homework Assignment (optional):
Assign a longer creative writing task (e.g., "Write the first chapter of a short story using today's character and setting").
Encourage the student to revise their work and focus on developing their ideas further.
Next Steps:
Preview what the next lesson will cover (e.g., dialogue, writing style, editing techniques).
Discuss any goals the student has for their writing.
