I approach any topic by first posing some problems that challenge the existing knowledge. After a discussion over the matter, I bring in the new ideas step by step till finally the student can see the new structure in its full significance. That's when the right time comes to work on questions and problems, which the tudent now doesn't have to learn by rote but can think on his/her own, feeling more in control.
