As an French, I often hear from others (and from my own experience) that they had terrible math teachers. I've only had a few good math teachers as well. I have asked this question hundreds, perhaps thousands, of times in my career. As a practice, I never ask a question I won’t answer myself. Still, I squirm a bit as I write this. As I reflect on the best mathematics lessons that I have taught, I consider one of my very first “best” mathematics lessons and, 20-plus years later, one of my most recent “best” mathematics lessons. While one lesson occurred in a 5th grade classroom and the other lesson took place in a college classroom, there are several common themes.
