About Caroline

Hello! I'm Caroline! I am a Master's level mathematician originally from northeast Tennessee now living in Kentucky! I graduated from Belmont University in 2022 with Bachelor's degrees in History and Mathematics, and I then graduated from Villanova University in 2024 with a Master's degree in Mathematics. In my undergraduate studies, I completed an honors research thesis in mathematical logic, and in my graduate studies, I completed a Master's thesis in algebraic combinatorics. During my time at Villanova, when not in class, I worked with undergraduate students both in the classroom and on a one-on-one basis as a tutor. I truly love working with students, and it quickly became my favorite part of my program!

About the lesson

I am incredibly enthusiastic about making math more accessible and less intimidating for all students. I do not believe math is a skill you are born with as I personally was never inclined toward the subject until I was in college. We can all grow and thrive in any subject, including math, if the material is presented to us in a clear and understandable manner. I like to begin lessons with an overview of the topic and the inner workings of the concept itself. Oftentimes, there is not enough time in a classroom setting to explain why we are actually doing things in math, and I have found learning the motivation behind these skills to be particularly beneficial to my understanding. We then move on to working through examples. I prefer to present the first two to you, the first being a simple example meant to solidify the idea and the second slightly more complicated to test our understanding, and then, I will give you time to work through your own examples and ask questions. Overall, I am very flexible with the structure of these sessions. While I have found this is what works best for me, it may not be what works best for you, and if that is the case, we will figure out what does! I primarily have experience working with college-level math courses, but I am also more than happy to take on high school math as well!
