What My Math Lessons Look Like
Hi, I’m Hunter! My approach to tutoring is centered around making math easier to understand rather than simply memorizing formulas or procedures. I believe that students learn best when they understand why something works, so I focus on breaking difficult concepts into smaller, manageable steps and connecting them to ideas the student already understands.
My teaching method is flexible and personalized to each student. I start by identifying what the student already knows and where they are having trouble. From there, we work through examples together, with me explaining the reasoning behind each step. As the student becomes more comfortable, I gradually have them take the lead while I provide guidance and feedback. I also use different explanations and examples when something isn't clicking, because not every student learns the same way.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material and any questions the student may have from class or homework. We then focus on the main topic or skill they are currently struggling with. I will demonstrate a few problems, work through problems with the student, and then give them opportunities to solve problems independently. We finish by reviewing the most important concepts and identifying anything they should continue practicing.
What sets me apart is my focus on understanding instead of just getting the answer. With my background in both Computer Science and Psychology, I have developed a strong appreciation for problem-solving and for understanding how different people learn. I want students to leave each lesson feeling more confident in their ability to solve problems on their own, not dependent on a tutor to do the work for them.
My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and college students who want additional support with mathematics. I can help students who are struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an exam, working through homework, or simply looking to strengthen their mathematical foundation.
