About Nicholas
As an award-winning scholar based at the University of Cambridge, I view tutoring as a way to inspire the next generation of students to achieve academic excellence and develop a curiosity about the world.
I am passionate about history, art, and politics, and delight in helping others to reach their goals, expand their horizons and think differently about the world. In the university setting, I have won teaching and research awards, largely for my work in establishing an effective learning environment and for rigorous academic writing.
Having grown up in South Africa and Canada, I bring an international perspective to education and enjoy teaching through a hands-on approach involving detailed discussions about work, close editing, and goal-setting to help students from all backgrounds build knowledge in a holistic and relaxed way.

I approach teaching through an open and caring pedagogy aimed at fostering not only academic excellence but excitement and curiosity. I emphasise close readings and analysis of texts in writing, alongside discussion-based learning, and have extensive experience editing essays, constructing watertight arguments and analysing work from a range of disciplines.
As a trained architect with a focus on history, theory, and politics, I work closely with creative learning and encourage students to think outside the box. I have worked since 2018 as a teacher at universities in Canada and the UK, and bring a global profile to academic tutoring.
Typically, my lessons run between 30 minutes and 1 hour, and I usually teach students preparing for university-level education.
