About Jackie
No matter how big or small your goals are, I put my everything into the growth of my students.
Some of the ways I've worked with students:
1. Interdisciplinary Approach - I've combined elements from both majors in the form of storytelling through animated fashion design, examining how narrative can influence apparel aesthetics. It's important to encourage cross-departmental collaboration, allowing students from different disciplines to work together on projects, fostering a holistic understanding of how film, animation, and apparel can intersect.
2. Hands-On Learning - I've conducted workshops that allow students to engage with both digital and physical mediums by creating an animated short film featuring custom-designed apparel, enabling students to apply practical skills in animation and garment construction.
Field Experiences: I've organized field trips to studios, fashion shows, and animation studios. This exposure helped students understand industry standards and practices, enhancing their learning experience.
3. Technology Integration - I've taught students how to use industry-standard software in both animation (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Maya) and apparel design (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Clo3D). I encouraged my students to explore how these tools can be used in innovative ways.
Emerging Technologies: I introduced students to the latest technologies in both fields, such as virtual reality (VR) for fashion presentations or animation. This encouraged experimentation in their projects.
4. Portfolio Development - I helped students build a robust portfolio that showcases their interdisciplinary skills. We incorporated peer reviews and industry critiques to prepare them for real-world applications.
5. Thematic Focus
Cultural and Social Issues: I encouraged students to explore themes related to culture, identity, and social issues through their projects. This could involve creating a film that addresses current fashion trends and their societal implications.
Sustainability and Ethics: I incorporated discussions on sustainability in both fashion and media. I then had students explore eco-friendly practices in apparel design while considering the ethical implications of storytelling in animation and film.
6. Student-Centered Learning
Personalized Learning Plans: I worked with students to create individualized learning plans that align with their interests and career goals. I offerd guidance on projects that reflect their unique artistic voices.
Feedback and Reflection: I implemented regular feedback sessions, encouraging students to reflect on their progress and iterate on their work. This promoted a growth mindset and fostered resilience in the creative process.
7. Community Engagement
Local Collaborations: When possible, we partnered with local organizations, fashion events, or film festivals to provide students with real-world experience and networking opportunities. This helped students to connect their academic work with community needs.
Showcase Opportunities: When in-person, students showcased their films and designs for the public to view and provide feedback on their work.
8. Mentorship and Professional Development
Mentorship Programs: I established mentorship opportunities with alumni or professionals in the industry to guide students in their career paths and enhance their professional networks.
