About Alisha
I recently graduated with a BM in Violin Performance at the Eastman School of Music. While at the school, I have performed with the Eastman Symphony Orchestra, the Eastman Philharmonia, Musica Nova, Studio Orchestra, and the Empire Film and Music Ensemble. While performing in EFAME, I had the opportunity to play alongside Renee Elise Goldsberry, Batman, and other short films. I also performed in the Avant String Quartet which did community outreach as part of the Eastman-To-Go initiative. In addition to performance, I also work as a student office assistant at the Office of Advancement, gaining the experience of administration behind what makes music-making possible. Outside of my time at Eastman, I taught private violin instruction at Dr. Charles T. Lunsford School #19 as part of Strings for Success. Currently, I am the music facilitator at the Natasha House where I teach the violin as well as other instruments!

Hello and welcome students and parents of the violin studio! This violin studio is a space for developing skill on and off the violin. We will not only learn about how to play the violin, but we will also learn how to have short-term and long-term goals, how to nurture discipline, how to pay attention to the details, and much more. All of the skills that we will learn while we play scales, etudes, and repertoire can be translated in all other aspects of the students’ lives. As a team of the teacher, parents, and student, we can nurture growth inside and outside of the violin practice. The end goal, in addition to playing beautiful music, is to grow mentally and emotionally. As a teacher, my role in the studio is to help the students to reach this goal. Through my years of performance and education training, I will bring an insight to help the students in their present development with a future potential in mind. I believe that each student is capable of such growth. I do not believe in the notion of “talent” in the sense that it is innate. Instead, I believe that each student has the capability of reaching high levels of violin performance. It is up to me, the teacher, and the parents to help the student navigate through their individualized strengths and weaknesses to reach these high levels. In this studio, a positive environment is important. An “unhealthy” competitive spirit not only negatively affects other students of the studio, but also hinders the students’ own growth. We must lift ALL students up in order to keep an encouraging studio. The relationships that are gained with the teachers, parents, and the peers’ students are incredibly important in their growth in confidence and motivation. Keeping this positivity is the key to this success. Lessons are expected to be weekly. Makeups are allowed occasionally, but the best success comes with consistency and reliability from all parties. In these instances, there is a required 24-hour notice and offered availability. Unless there is a clear emergency, a missed lesson results in a “no-show” fee. Communication from students and parents is extremely important. As a teacher, I will do my best with communication and it must come from all parties to be most successful! Curriculum: The students are expected to come to each lesson prepared with what the teacher had assigned from the week prior. To be successful, the beginning student must practice at least 30 minutes a day. Intermediate students must practice at least 1 hour every day. Advanced students are expected to practice at least 2-3 hours a day. This is to accommodate for the workload it takes at each level to progress further. However, I always do understand when school or extracurricular activities get in the way. Again, communication is key! We want to make the most out of our time at the studio with the goal of growth in mind!
