-In Mathematics and Chemistry classes, it is essential to be able to think critically about the problem at hand. I encourage students to not ask for help immediately, but instead to try and solve the problem using their previous experiences.
- Once this has occurred, I use an 'I do, We do, You do' approach. I have found that this leads to the highest retention of information.
-Chemistry has no issue with being applicable. However, many students struggle seeing the applications of Mathematics classes.
Especially high school and college level math, due to the
abstractness. I tend to use many application problems in my
tutoring sessions so my students can see the benefits of what
they are doing.
