About Shane
I taught for 5+ years in the public school system and even at a local private school. My subjects ranged from British Literature, Geography, Drama, Pre-Algebra, World History, U.S History, and Middle School level Literacy and Social Studies. I have a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in History. Previously, I was certified in 4-12 Social Studies, 4-8 Math, and 4-12 English. I enjoy each of my subjects and take joy in explaining these concepts to new learners.

My teaching method is one that involves the student actually seeing the relevance of the subject in his/her daily life. I like to use real-world examples to explain concepts. My focus (especially in Social Studies) is on college level courses, but also welcome high school students as well. Very few teachers have taught high school courses in each of these 3 disciplines, but I have and enjoyed each of them equally.
My primary specialties are World History, World Literature, and Algebra.
My typical lesson plan will being by asking a thought provoking question that is real-world and relates to the topic being discussed. I will address the topic from the text and then explain the concept and why it is important to be skilled in this area for future endeavors and careers. I typically close by assessing the level of understanding from the student.
