About Iris

I graduated from Emory University in May 2024 with a 4.0 GPA, earning a degree in biology. Throughout my academic journey, I have taken extensive biology, chemistry, and math coursework, excelling in all subjects. My strong foundation in these disciplines is built upon a deep understanding of fundamental concepts and their real-world applications, allowing me to retain and apply this knowledge effectively. My experience at Emory has reinforced the importance of engaging instruction in student success. For students to truly grasp and excel in a subject, educators must present material clearly and capture their interest. Therefore, I can confidently help students strive in various subjects for the long run.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I strive to create an interactive and stimulating learning environment through diverse problem sets and targeted exercises. While lectures can be valuable, active problem-solving is the most effective way for students to internalize concepts and build confidence.
I have over three years of tutoring experience, primarily working with middle and high school students in mathematics, including Algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and prealgebra. Additionally, my academic background enables me to teach chemistry and biology confidently. Throughout my tutoring experience, I have helped students improve their grades by reinforcing core concepts, assisting with homework, and preparing them for exams. My teaching philosophy is centered on guiding students to discover solutions independently by asking thought-provoking questions, fostering critical thinking, and ensuring a deep comprehension of the subject matter.
My goal as a tutor is to help students achieve academic success and equip them with problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. I prioritize open communication to understand each student's unique goals and learning needs, tailoring my approach to maximize their growth and confidence. By emphasizing the reasoning behind concepts rather than rote memorization, I strive to help students develop a lasting understanding that will serve them well in their academic and professional pursuits.
