About Benjamin
I started piano lessons at age 8 but quit after two years because it was so incredibly boring to me just playing lessons from a book like school. Then I played trumpet in school bands for six years, but that too became an exercise and just playing the notes on the page. At 13 I started guitar lessons, and that was the first time I learned music theory which opened up my entire world to be able to not just play music on a page, but create music. I always told myself I would pursue music full-time “someday,” and after over 10 years in the Army, I did that by attending Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduating in 2015 with a degree in songwriting. While a student at Berklee, and after graduating, I taught guitar and piano lessons in homes to children as well as adult musicians. I am confident that both my formal education and years of informal, personal study allow me to meet and add value to every student that I teach.

My approach is to meet the student where they’re at, with a focus on teaching the skills needed now to help them get to where THEY want to go. Every student is different. Every musician has unique reasons for why they want music in their life. My goal is simply to help guide you to the place where you’re enjoying the music you’re creating.
