About George

I am an Ex NASA JPL Electrical Engineer in Deep Space Communications Architecture where I worked for 4 years in the US working on satellites and amplifiers. I graduated my Ph.D. at the University of Sydney, working on nanophotonics and free-space optical communications in 2026. I also used to teach engineering courses at the University of Sydney, and previously University of Michigan Ann Arbor, in Signals and Systems as well as Intro to Electrical Engineering.

Currently I am the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Lumina Corp, a Photonic Integrated Circuit company. I am based in Melbourne but travel frequently so rely on my ipad and zoom to conduct my tutoring.

I have experience tutoring maths and physics at the high school and university levels in New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. (IGCSE, CIE (A, AS and Further Maths), NCEA, HSC, IB and SAT)

About the lesson

I am a practical learner and believe that theory should only be taught once the application of said theory is fully understood. Particularly in STEM subjects such as maths and physics. No young student truly understands what letters in a formula mean unless they understand the application. I aim to educate students in a simple, understandable way without all the technical jargon. Understanding a concept and how it is used is more important than names and rules. I am happy to help clarify concepts, work through tough homework problems (but not do them for you) and revisit/explain fundamentals that are often misunderstood.
