GCSE & Year 12 French lessons from a UCL student with 3 years teaching experience.

I’ve known Alexander since September 2021, when he started volunteering as a teaching assistant for years five and six at our school. As a teaching assistant, he supported the class teacher and worked with small groups of students. The class teacher described him as having a grounding and calm influence on the children.

Alexander demonstrated strong communication skills, effectively engaging with students and motivating them to learn. His ability to connect with children and adapt to their needs was key to his success in the classroom.

In addition to his work as a teaching assistant, Alexander assisted with special events, ensuring activities ran smoothly and that instructions were clear and enjoyable for the children.

Over time, Alexander progressed significantly and eventually took on the role of a teacher for a year. His skills in class management, lesson planning, and adapting to different students’ needs became evident as he tailored lessons to suit the level of engagement in the room. Whether adjusting activities on the spot or responding sensitively to students’ varying needs, Alexander showed flexibility and pedagogical understanding.
