About Miles
Hi, I’m Miles.
I’m a first-class Philosophy graduate currently working in a secondary school supporting students with a wide range of learning, behavioural, and emotional needs.
Teaching really clicked for me during my time as a ski instructor in Canada, Switzerland, and Japan. I worked with people of all ages and abilities, and I loved seeing how the right guidance could transform someone’s confidence—not just their performance.
Since then, I’ve continued developing that skill in more academic settings. I’ve worked as an English Editor for a science journal, and I now support students day-to-day in school, helping them stay focused, manage challenges, and make real progress.
I’m particularly interested in how people learn, build confidence, and overcome mental blocks—so my sessions aren’t just about content, but about helping you feel more capable and in control.
If you’re someone who struggles with motivation, confidence, or staying on track, I’ll meet you where you’re at and help you move forward in a way that actually feels manageable.

How I Help You Improve:
I focus on helping you build confidence, clarity, and consistency—so you don’t just understand the material, but can actually perform under pressure in exams or assessments.
My approach is highly personalised. Whether you struggle with focus, confidence, or specific topics, I adapt lessons to your learning style and pace. I often incorporate your interests (sport, music, current topics) to make sessions more engaging and easier to retain.
I currently work as a SEND/SEMH Learning Support Assistant with students aged 10–16, so I’m very experienced in:
* supporting different learning needs and attention styles
* breaking down complex ideas into simple, manageable steps
* helping students manage anxiety, frustration, and self-doubt around schoolwork
Alongside this, my background as an English Editor means I can help you sharpen your writing, structure essays clearly, and avoid common grammar mistakes—skills that directly improve grades.
My goal isn’t just short-term results. I help you develop self-trust, independence, and effective study habits, so you feel more in control of your learning long after our sessions.

It is a genuine privilege to recommend Miles.
I have known Miles since he was seven years old, and over the years I have had the opportunity to observe his development both personally and academically. He has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and intellectual capability, achieving excellent results throughout his education and culminating in a first-class degree in Philosophy.
Beyond his academic accomplishments, Miles has shown notable resilience and maturity in navigating personal challenges. He has approached adversity with determination and focus, using those experiences as a platform for growth. His decision to train and work as a ski instructor, while travelling internationally, reflects both initiative and adaptability, as well as an ability to engage confidently with diverse groups of people.
Miles brings a natural aptitude for teaching. He is patient, empathetic, and highly attuned to the needs of others, with an ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and accessible way. His emotional intelligence is particularly strong; he demonstrates insight, compassion, and a genuine commitment to supporting those around him.
He is someone who continuously seeks self-improvement, embraces challenge, and conducts himself with integrity and warmth. Any student working with Miles will benefit not only from his academic knowledge, but also from his supportive and encouraging approach.
I am exceptionally proud to know him and have no hesitation in recommending him.Miles is a great teacher and his calm, patient manner will put anyone at ease. He is great at adapting topics to suit an individual, and making it fun! Thanks Miles :)
Miles is a very kind and patient teacher with good English skills
He has good experience of working abroad and has tutored previously in English.
He has an empathetic style and is good with adults or children.Really friendly and supportive - I would recommend!
I recommend Miles as he is super patient and understanding! His calm nature definitely makes it a great atmosphere to learn in - especially when things get more complicated. Thanks Miles for being a great teacher :)
- Miles is my twin brother.
- Miles is extremely empathetic and understanding for a person of his age. I think that will resonate with the kids he’s teaching because he has a lot of patience and knows things take time.
- Miles and I have been through a lot so the experiences are vast but I’d say the biggest one that resonates me is that I apologised years later for my behaviour towards him when I felt he wasn’t taking care of his health. Rather than having a rational conversation with him, I would get stressed and shout. Like I mentioned, years later I apologised and he said maybe that stress and anger was stemming from the fact that you were scared and didn’t know how to vocalise it. He said it came from a place of love and he understands that. That made me incredibly self- aware and really changed the way I thought about the whole ordeal. He has wisdom that extends lifetimes that would resonate well with the people he teaches. He’s a very special person.View more recommendations
