About Colm
I am a Software Engineering student at the University of Edinburgh, having recently achieved A*A*A* in Edexcel Mathematics, Edexcel Physics and AQA Computer Science. I achieved an A* in Computer Science, including 73/75 in my NEA.
I have experience tutoring students from Year 7 through to Year 13, so I am comfortable working with a range of abilities and ages. Having completed A Level Computer Science very recently, I understand both the course content and the pressures of preparing for GCSE and A Level exams.
Computer Science has always been one of my strongest subjects and I particularly enjoy programming and problem solving. I aim to be approachable and patient while keeping lessons focused and productive.
I am particularly familiar with AQA Computer Science, including the specification, exam structure, mark schemes and techniques needed to perform well.

I tailor lessons to each student, focusing on areas they find difficult before working through examples and exam-style questions together. I aim to develop both a strong understanding of the theory and the ability to apply it effectively in exams.
I can help with Computer Science theory, algorithms, problem solving and programming, particularly in Python. I can also support students with the programming and problem-solving skills relevant to their NEA while ensuring assessed work remains their own.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are suitable for GCSE or A Level Computer Science students.
Having completed AQA Computer Science very recently, I have up-to-date experience with the current specification, past papers and the challenges students are likely to face.

Colm taught CS to my daughter Sadhbh for GCSEs. He is really so knowledgeable, not only of the spec but also past papers and the mark schemes showing her exactly how she could get maximum marks for her questions. He made lessons fun and engaging and she even said she felt confident and prepared for her exam.
Having recently completed my A levels alongside Colm and achieving an A* in maths, I can confidently say that his help played a huge part in my result. I thought that getting tutored by my friend would mean that we get no work done, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I think by far the most helpful part was how recently he had completed the course and his precise explanations of what each part would make me think. He knew the exact problems I was facing and the problem with my thought process because he had faced the same issues months before me while learning. He was very clear and made sure I understood any problem before moving on. I cannot thank him enough.
My daughter (Y8) was completely in the dark about Python code, but with Colm’s consistent and effective tutoring she was able to obtain a top grade in her final exam. He explained all the concepts clearly and my daughter is very confident thanks to his help! We are looking forward to further sessions with Colm in the future!
Colm tutored me in both Maths and Computer Science throughout my GCSEs, and I couldn't recommend him enough. When I started with him halfway through Year 10, I was predicted a 7 in maths, but with his support I achieved a comfortable grade 9, and gave me the confidence to take on A-level maths. He made difficult concepts easy to understand, helped me stay on top of schoolwork, practically taught me how to code in python from scratch and always made sure I was focused on the areas I needed to improve on. The best thing I can say about Colm was how fun he made learning, he taught maths and CS in a way that made me enjoy the subjects more than I ever have and I genuinely looked forward to our sessions. I'm extremely grateful for all his help and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a tutor.
I was in the year below Colm at Dubai College, and completed my GCSE examinations in June 2025. Initially I struggled with Physics, but after tutoring with Colm my grade increased from a 5 to an 8. He is a very patient and clear teacher, and I am truly grateful for his help.
