About Maisie

Hi, I'm Maisie! I'm currently on a gap year and offer support for GCSE Maths and Science.

When I was studying for my GCSEs and A-Levels, I often found myself having to re-teach certain concepts at home to fully understand them. This has taught me how important it is to grasp core ideas that are sometimes only briefly explained at school.

I would describe myself as highly organised, detailed-orientated and a meticulous planner. I'll help students fully understand core concepts and practise applying these to exam questions so they feel confident tackling exams. I can also assist in structuring revision effectively in the lead-up to exams.

I understand how stressful GCSE preparation can be, and my aim is to help students feel confident, calm and ready for exams.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed around a simple formula to succeed in GCSE Maths and Science:
1. Understand the Specification - we will identify key topics to focus on and what the exam expects
2. Master the core concepts - I will explain tricky concepts clearly to ensure the student fully grasps each topic, and I'm happy to share useful resources I've found effective.
3. Apply knowledge to past papers - we will practise exam-style questions and mark them in detail using the mark scheme so students feel confident tackling the exam. Students are also welcome to bring their own past papers for detailed feedback.

Lessons are typically 1 hour long, but this can be adjusted to meet the needs of the student. I studied AQA GCSE Science and EDEXCEL iGCSE maths, so I am familiar with these exam boards, but I can quickly become familiar with other exam boards as well.

I achieved grade 9 in GCSE Maths and 9-9 in GCSE Combined Science. In my A-Levels I achieved A*AA in Chemistry, Biology and Maths. I also achieved an A* in my EPQ.

During sixth form, I supported Year 11 pupils with GCSE maths preparation. I also helped mentor Year 8 pupils in an independent project programme, providing written and verbal feedback and assessing final dissertations.

My aim is to help students build confidence in their understanding and exam technique, so they can perform their best in every exam.
