About Mary
Hey there! My name is Mary Steenhuisen. I have been tutoring for six years, and have even taught 6th-8th grade mathematics, and English for half a year. It was through this amazing teaching experience that I realized just how much I love talking to students and getting them to love learning just as much as I do. I know the saying, "learning can be fun", sounds very cliché, but I promise it is true. I used to be tutored in middle school for my writing and mathematical skills, and I went from hating it to loving it, all because of the techniques and approaches of my tutor. That is why I take my job seriously and why I love it, because if I could help make learning difficult subjects even just a little bit better, then I will gladly take that opportunity. I am a psychology student who plans on being a future therapist, so I use some helpful tools that I am learning about education and development and apply them to my students to create a better learning experience. If you are looking for a fun tutor who will be a friend and mentor, then I am the right person for you.

- I believe teaching is about guiding people to achieve their own success. Every person is unique and deserves to be educated in a personal approach. For example, some students may require more verbal explanations to certain topics or lessons, whereas, others might need to visualize the subject matter in order to understand it. I take great pride in being able to analyze what type of student I am tutoring so I can make learning a fun experience for them, and they end up learning more than they thought they would. I love teaching mathematics to middle school students, and essay writing as well as literature to high school and college students. I can understand that learning about these particular subjects can be quite arduous to some, so that is why I love teaching them using my techniques, because it turns into a more exciting experience.
