About YUANYUAN
As a passionate artist and multimedia enthusiast with a design degree from Nanjing University of Arts, I bring creativity and modern cultural flair to Mandarin teaching. Currently pursuing my Master of Teaching at Monash University, I merge structured pedagogy with engaging art and pop culture – think analyzing C-drama dialogues, creating meme-based vocabulary lessons, and exploring Chinese character design like visual art. My 3+ years of tutoring experience helps students from beginners to advanced learners master practical Chinese through innovative methods like film analysis, digital storytelling, and interactive media projects. Whether you want conversational skills, exam prep, or to understand China's vibrant contemporary culture through its arts and entertainment, I'll design dynamic lessons that make learning feel like exploring an exciting new exhibition.

My teaching approach: Creative, structured & student- centered
As both an artist and educator-in-training, I bend visual storytelling, interactive activities, and real-life scenarios to make Mandarin feel alive.
We'll use :
Design-based learning: Sketch vocabulary, analyze Chinese calligraphy as art.
Pop culture immersion: learn through music lyrics, viral videos, and memes probably!
Pedagogical structure: Scaffolded lessons aligned with CEFR levels (but way more fun).
Lesson length:
Standard: 60 minutes (optimal for practice + cultural deep dives).
Intensive: 90-minute sessions (great for project-based learning, like scripting a short drama).

BA in Design
Current Master of teaching student
4+ years of tutoring: Helped students ace exams, business Chinese, and casual conversation.
Who are my lesson for?
Children (6+): play-based learning
Teens/Adults: Slang, debate topics, and career-focused vocab.
Every 5th lesson includes a "Culture Lab"- like decoding a Chinese TikTok trend or designing your own hanzi-inspired logo.

Perfect! I've only had a first lesson so far but it was really great to be broken up into two parts just a short one to get a sense of where I am up to then a follow up to generate enthusiasm. The first lesson was very professionally presented.
