About Jodie

Hi, I'm Jodie – and I love helping children enjoy learning! I've spent the last 6 years working in primary schools, supporting children of all abilities with their English skills — from building confidence in reading and writing to helping them feel proud of their progress. I’ve worked with lots of amazing children, including those with SEN, and I always take the time to understand what each learner needs to feel supported. I became a tutor because I love those “lightbulb moments” — when something clicks and a student realises they can do it. My lessons are relaxed, friendly, and full of encouragement. Whether your child needs help catching up, preparing for SATs, or just a little extra support, I’m here to make learning feel positive and pressure-free. Lessons are online, engaging, and tailored just for them — and yes, I’m fully DBS-checked and up to date with the curriculum too. Let’s help your child feel more confident and capable with English — and even enjoy it along the way.

About the lesson

As an experienced primary English tutor with 6 years working in primary education, I tailor every lesson to meet the individual needs of each child. My approach is child-centred, patient, and supportive, with a strong focus on building confidence, developing core skills, and making learning enjoyable. I use a multi-sensory and interactive approach, combining visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic methods to suit different learning styles. Lessons often include: Games and activities to reinforce spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. Guided reading and comprehension tasks to improve understanding. Writing practice with structured feedback to build creativity and accuracy. For students with SEN (Special Educational Needs), I adapt materials and pace to ensure accessibility and engagement, drawing from hands-on classroom experience supporting a wide range of learners. Most lessons are 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the child’s age and concentration span. Lessons are structured but flexible, with a clear objective, engaging activities, and time for review or questions. I have extensive experience working with KS2 pupils, including SEN support. I am familiar with the National Curriculum and current classroom expectations. I am DBS checked and experienced in safeguarding procedures. I tutor primary-aged children (ages 5–11), including: Those needing help with English reading, writing, or SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). Pupils preparing for SATs, transitioning to secondary school or preparing for the Kent Test. Children with additional needs who benefit from a patient, personalised approach. Learners needing a confidence boost or extra practice outside of school.
