About Kala

Hey, I'm Mrs Williams and I absolutely love books! I know some of you may not love to read all the time but can I tell you a secret? Often it is because the books we read can be confusing to figure out. What if I told you that the reason why you struggle is because you have been tested rather than taught to make meaning out of texts? In our sessions we slow down so you can go faster, squeezing all the good stuff out of enticing reads and once I teach you easy to remember strategies, a whole new world of words will excite your imagination! I don't just leave it there because we all know the tough part is answering those test questions. So in the Mastery approach, I also give you the 'how to answer' tools you will need to demonstrate what you know and understand. About the lesson

Reading comprehension in the primary school is often about testing rather than teaching. It is important that my students develop a love for reading and by providing them with child friendly strategies that unlock text meaning and understanding while working with quality reading opportunities, they get pleasure from each lesson. In every session watch your child's confidence grow as strategies taught also unlocks the 'how' behind answering comprehension questions. The Mastery Method I have developed has been documented in my best selling book 'Mastery in Reading Comprehension : A guide for primary teachers and leaders' and fully adapted by Good and Outstanding Schools in the Midlands with rave results. It works for all children who struggle be it where English is an additional language or not. A part of the joy I experience is watching my pupils grow in their love for reading and of course hearing all about their improved attainment in school.
