About Deirdre

Hi, I’m Deirdre! I am a fully qualified and Teaching Council-registered post-primary English teacher with a Master’s/PME qualification and experience working with secondary-school students across a range of abilities.

I understand that English can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when it comes to essay writing, poetry, comprehension and exam preparation. My approach is patient, encouraging and tailored to each individual student. I aim to create a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and working through areas they find challenging.

I provide support for Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate English, including essay writing, poetry, novels, drama, comprehension and exam technique. I can also help students learn how to structure stronger answers, develop their ideas and approach exam questions with greater confidence.

Whether a student needs additional support, wants to improve their grades or is aiming for a higher result, I tailor lessons to their individual goals and ability.

Above all, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident in their ability and clear about how they can continue to improve.

About the lesson

I offer supportive and personalized English tutoring, with each lesson tailored to the individual student’s needs, ability and goals. I aim to create a relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and can build confidence in their English skills.

My lessons focus on areas such as essay writing, reading comprehension, poetry, drama, novels, grammar and exam technique. For exam-year students, I place particular emphasis on understanding exam questions, structuring strong answers, developing ideas and using past papers effectively. I also provide clear, constructive feedback so students understand exactly how they can improve their work.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes and are structured around the areas in which the student needs the most support.

I am a fully qualified and Teaching Council-registered post-primary teacher with a Master’s/PME qualification and experience working with secondary-school students of different ages and abilities.

My lessons are suitable for Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate students, whether they are finding English challenging, want to improve their essay-writing and exam technique, or are aiming to achieve a higher grade. My goal is to help each student become more confident, organized and independent in their approach to English.
