About Sumantha

Hi! I am a nurturing and friendly ex-teacher. As a full-time private tutor (14+ years), I specialise in SATs, 11+ entrance exams and GCSE. I also teach students who are homeschooled. Please scroll down to see my current student list.

My experience is supported by 6+ years of secondary school teaching, 10+ years of private tuition and 12+ years as an adult trainer.

I offer:

- Key Stage 1 & 2 English(support in-line with National Curriculum)
- SATs (English)
- 11+ and 13+ exam preparation (including Tiffin, Kingston Grammar, Sutton schools SET, Eton and St George's)
- GCSE English (mostly AQA), Business St and Computer Sc (Various examination boards)

My combined in-school and tuition experience enables me to fine-tune my approach to individual student needs.

I specialise in boosting confidence, increasing motivation and targeting the development of specific skills.

I’m a passionate teacher who believes that learning should be engaging, not a chore.

*Can I guarantee results?*

I can certainly guarantee an improvement in skills and confidence. In terms of actual results, this largely depends on how much work my students are able to put in.

Having said that, all of my students thus far have seen an increase in their grades.

Some notes:
- Discount applied for multiple lessons per week
- Due to a large volume of students, I am unable to travel to student houses. Students are welcome to come to me or have online lessons.

About the lesson

Lesson 1: I always advise arriving 5 minutes early so we can all meet and have a quick chat.

Subsequent lessons: tailored to meet student ongoing learning needs and goals.

Homework: usually set every lesson and planned to develop specific skills.

Recommended duration: 1 -2 hours per week.

For English Language and Literature GCSE, 2 hours per week is recommended as they are two separate subjects.

I believe that students benefit from everyone's support so, I always liaise with parents/guardians about student learning and progress.

A neighbour highly recommended Sam as a Maths tutor but we actually used her for GCSE English. My daughter Jess had missed a lot of school, she was very behind with her knowledge and had very low self-esteem. Throughout the tutoring process, Sam was warm and approachable and extremely encouraging.
Sam has very high standards and pushed by daughter to do her very best in tutorials and with homework. They covered a lot of ground over the few months that they had and I am confident that Jess will have improved her grades when the results come in August.
