About Michael

Hello, I am Michael, a math teacher with 11 years of experience and 3,000+ hours helping students improve and understand mathematics through online teaching. I am new to this platform.

Here is an overview of my main experience:
• United States Math (SAT, Algebra, Integrated Math, AP Precalculus, AP Calculus)
• IB MYP and DP (AA SL/HL and AI SL/HL)
• Cambridge IGCSE and A-level
• Pearson IGCSE and A-level
• Australia HSC Extension 1 and 2
• I'm also comfortable working outside these areas, as adaptability is one of my main strengths.

Every student progress looks a little different, but here are some most memorable moments that I'm proud to have been part of:
• Helped a student who was predicted a B achieve an A
• Supported straight-A students in fixing a few small gaps in their understanding
• Guided student who struggled with math until things finally clicked and he could keep up with class
• Prepared a student to pass the entrance test for a scholarship to study and live in Singapore
• Coached a student to get gold at the 7th grade Singapore Math Olympiad (SASMO), after winning bronze the year before

About the lesson

I bring adaptability and dedication to helping students succeed. Academic success is not just a matter of teaching math theory. I go the extra mile and support my students in several ways:
• Carefully crafted lessons using an explanation-example-practice approach to improve understanding
• Diagnosing weaknesses and gaps in understanding
• Meaningful practice: I guide my students to think instead of spoon-feeding answers, and we focus on the important parts to save time
• Practice using past papers classified by topic so that students are more prepared for exams
• Extra assignments and structured notes to help revise and retain old topics. Though I understand school can get busy, so these are provided only when necessary
• Adapting my methods to match the school teacher's approach
• Students are always welcome to message me outside lesson hours, and I'll respond as quickly as possible
