Humour is an effective medium of teaching. Everyone loves a teacher with an infectious sense of humour. Looking at the lighter side of life fosters cordial relations between the teacher and students. The students aren’t afraid to be silly and can laugh at their own mistakes.
To keep students involved and on their toes, I try to move from teacher-centered learning to student-centered active learning, and vice versa. I vary my teaching styles depending on the nature of the subject matter, the phase of the course, and other factors. By so doing, I encourage and inspire students to do their best at all times.
Engaging students with activities helps them to think more critically about the content they are learning. Activities allow students to connect differing pieces of information, build upon new knowledge, evoke questions and apply new information to real world circumstances through application. Having students participate in class activities motivates them and gives worth and significance to classroom instruction.
