About Sammy
I studied Social Work and Global Studies at Arizona State University where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree while playing on the school's volleyball team. After a few years of working in sales in the United States, I moved to London, England to pursue education and gain some more experience with children. I got my postgraduate certificate in education from London Metropolitan University in central London and worked as a classroom teacher there after graduating. I currently am working as a classroom teacher in Vancouver, still playing volleyball and traveling as much as I can. I am passionate about helping children form a love of learning and find their passions within their studies.

Having my own struggles in learning as a young student, I have a deep passion for curating creative, engaging lessons that work for every learner. My own struggles in school and previous frustrations in learning are what drive my passion as an educator. With my thesis on dyslexia, I studied learning methods that are scientifically proven to combat some of the struggles that people experience with dyslexia but also the common learner who is struggling with the average lesson filled with listening and note-taking. I have years of experience working with children with special needs and have worked very closely with professionals such as: psychologists, counselors, behavioral specialists, occupational therapists and more. I am also currently working at an international baccalaureate school where I include the 'inquiry mindset' and deeply promote critical thinking and curiosity in my lessons and discussions daily. Ultimately, I aim to make learning fun, engaging, exciting and relatable. As someone who used to hate going to school, I try really hard to make it not feel forced, frustrating and 'boring'. This is done through finding connections between the student and material and pushing our critical thinking skills to make meaningful connections to the material.
