I try and simplify things for students as it always helped me. I also attempt to find out what the student is interested in and then attempt to compare the maths question to their passion. For instance, if they love football and the question is 5x4 I would ask them if Messi scores 5 goals every single game for 4 games in a row, how many goals does he score?
