About Jessica
I am a currently an ESL teacher, part-time EAL and IELTS tutor with 3+ years past experience in a range of areas within education. From working as a mainstream TA, to working as an English camp tutor in Italy, I have worked with children aged 3-15 years old and adults, and can easily adapt lessons to suit individual needs.
I am qualified in the subject of Education, EAL and TESOL (BA hons and MA) and have a personal interest in EAL provision within mainstream schooling ( I have conducted 2 research projects in this subject area). I have knowledge of numerous education theories and methods which means I can confidently modify and redesign a lesson with the students learning style in mind aiding the smooth running of a lesson.

Philosophy:
My style always involves meaningful communication activities and communicative language techniques to ensure my students are getting the most out of the sessions. I believe in the use of games and speaking activities as a tool to enhance retention of information & create a positive teaching environment that means the students come back wanting to learn more!
Lesson structure:
If a student has a piece of work to bring to a session (e.g. homework, work tasks or any extracurricular projects) we can discuss and complete activities based around being able to complete this piece of work. My way of teaching involves lots of communicative activities, therefore the sessions will include meaningful tasks for the student to feel engaged and interested in the topic and retain more information, ultimately aiding language development.
If a student requires tutoring for specific use of language, for example EAP, IELTS or similar, we can develop a plan to help the student blossom in that area, always taking into consideration the students learning styles and current language ability.
If a student is looking for a general language tutor to better their skills (speaking, listening, reading or writing) in English that is something we can do! If the student prefers informal, chatty-style sessions based on communicative activities we can develop lesson plans for that. Alternatively, formal structured lessons are something that I am very familiar with creating, so that is no problem!
I would ask that if a student has a topic, piece of work or purpose for wanting these lessons, that they let me know before the session as it allows me to fully prepare and produce a plan, activities and resources for the student.
