About Christopher

I’m Chris. I’m 31 years old and I live with my wife, Ellie. I’m an avid musician, aspiring martial artist and proud bookworm. Most of all, I love a good conversation.
I started volunteering as a one-to-one special needs teaching assistant at the infants’ school where my mum was the school secretary. After senior members of staff encouraged me to become a teacher, I completed my PGCE in 2015.
I decided the best place to cut my teeth was in London where I spent my first year taking a year 2 class through their KS1 Assessments as a long term supply teacher. In my second year I was employed by the school as a PPA teacher and gained experience ranging from bottle-feeding children in preschool to preparing year 6 students for their KS2 Assessments.
My next move in education was back to my own secondary school - employed by my old ICT teacher(!). Initially employed as a pastoral officer, my line manager used my teaching experience to cover various classes and run GCSE interventions. I was also charged with running a homeroom for students with myriad social, emotional and mental problems to overcome. Here I completed Prevent Training to tackle radicalisation and expanded my knowledge of safeguarding and whistleblowing policy.
Later I engaged young people in sauna culture through workshops at a wood-fired sauna that my wife and I were running at a family campsite.
Throughout all this, I have been exposed to many stages and styles of education employing a variety of approaches, which I am now keen to develop into my own systematic, integrative, child-led model.

About the lesson

If you book a trial lesson, we’ll start by talking about what you want from tutoring. We’ll have a general discussion about life to help me understand your aims in context of you as a whole. Then I’ll tell you if and how I think I can help.
If we decide to have another session, we’ll always begin by checking in and seeing where you are today. Then, we’ll decide on a relevant activity of your choice, pick a target for that activity together, and do a bit of discrete teaching to highlight the focus for the session. You have the right to change direction at any point.
Towards the end, we’ll recap the activity and target. We’ll assess progress and reflect on the session, then finish by briefly discussing ideas and materials for next time - and what you might do in the meantime.
Afterwards, I will be in contact to book your next session - should you so choose.
