About Chris
Hi, my name is Chris, and I'm a native English speaker from Glasgow, Scotland. I became interested in languages by learning Spanish as a hobby. Learning the various grammar structures and seeing the similarities and differences with English made me want to understand my first language better. Attempting to learn a language has also taught me a lot about how difficult and time-consuming it can be and how satisfying making progress is. The CELTA course has given me experience in helping others improve their English, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching. Before teaching languages, my educational background was in psychology. In 2023, I graduated from the University of Northumbria with an MSc in Psychology with a distinction grade. The following year, my thesis project was featured in the well-respected peer-reviewed journal Psychology & Health, published by Taylor & Francis. I'm more than happy to create lessons that combine psychology and English language learning for students who are also interested. My teaching style is very student-centred. I offer a free 30-minute lesson to discuss your English language goals and plan future lessons accordingly. I teach a mix of listening, reading, grammar, and vocabulary, but I make plenty of time for you to practise speaking, whatever the focus of an individual lesson is. As a recently qualified CELTA tutor with a Cambridge-accredited qualification in teaching English as a second language, I have experience planning and conducting lessons for students from A2 to B2 levels. The course was conducted online, so I learnt to use multiple tools to make lessons engaging and interactive in ways impossible in a traditional classroom.
