About Charles
I'm Charles and have been teaching for 7 years professionally, working self-employed and with various companies/agencies/institutions/academies of various sizes and levels of education (up to Bachelor courses lvls 4-6). From 1 to 1 students to degree classes, I have found great enjoyment helping people achieve their goals, regardless of how difficult or otherwise the task may seem. It is great to see the lightbulb moment when a student realises their goal or makes significant progress towards it. I'm friendly but very dedicated as a tutor, and am willing to speak openly and honestly about realistic goal setting and how to work towards them at a healthy pace.

My teaching ethos is simple, we work together as a team towards your chosen goals, whether that be specific techniques, pieces, theory knowledge, or just general improvement. I provide the best service I can as a tutor, but the best results are achieved when both members of the team put the work in. I have taught many students of all levels, from complete beginners to classes of degree and diploma students at the Academy of Contemporary Music (from Sept 2018 - Sept 2020) as well as holding a BMus (Hons) degree I have also worked with the Yamaha music school and have been one of their accredited tutors for 3 years (and counting). I have taught in various ways to best suit the individual and take concepts off of the page and talk about the real world application when playing music or composing. My expertise is in advanced rock guitar technique, high level improvisation and applied theory. I believe consistency is key and am happy to go through any topics or syllabus of your choice, at your pace. My lessons are normally 1 hour long (these have the best results) and I am willing to teach any age or level, all I ask is that you have the drive to improve. Whether you are just starting and want the best possible kick start, an intermediate player wanting to break ground into technique development or understanding of theory, or you are a developed advanced player looking for fresh concepts and challenges to further push your development, we can work through all problem areas and get you achieving your goals with a realistic mindset and timespan suitable to you.

I'm now in my 4th month of weekly lessons with Charles and I'm very pleased with my experience thus far. He's been a great help with developing both my understanding of music theory and my technique. In this relatively short span of time, we've covered a broad range of topics, all of which serve to *apply* the foundational concepts of music theory to the fretboard.
With electric guitar, he's skilled in many styles of playing including jazz, rock, blues—and most notably—speedy-speedy progressive metal. He's a very skilled musician with some impressive chops. And, importantly, he is able to articulate with great clarity the minute details that are required in order to achieve his level of skill on the axe.
He's very personable, understanding, and flexible in the approach that we take with my lessons. I would strongly recommend Charles as a guitar or music theory instructor to students of the electric guitar.Charles is a fantastic musician and guitar teacher. As a self-taught guitarist that was unable to pinpoint the causes of my plateaus, Charles was an absolute godsend. He was able to accurately find all of the gaps in my knowledge and guide me toward advancement. In addition, he showed me new techniques/technique refinements that took my guitar playing far beyond my previous plateau.
10/10 would recommend him to anyone that would like to learn guitar(or even just theory for that matter).Charles is a fantastic educator that has a wealth of theoretical knowledge as well as some of the best chops I've seen in the guitar world backing it up. The fact that he was the youngest lecturer at ACM should be proof enough of his accomplishment on the instrument.
He's a patient teacher and always knows just the right moment to push students further ahead beyond their current limits...and when to give them time to consolidate. Charles is also keenly aware of how mental state factors into learning; when needed, he imparts lessons that stretch into personal development beyond just music. Even as a professional musician I've benefited from studying under him.
All around friendly, skilled, and professional bloke! As a musician and music teacher myself I know what I look for in a teacher and Charles is astonishingly well equipped. Not only does he play with incredible ease and clarity, but he has great understanding of everything he does and crucially, can articulate it well to any level of player in an appropriately structured manner. He is also very patient with people as well as just being a very personable guy so I am more than happy to recommend him to anybody who wants to learn the electric guitar.
Had an excellent few lessons from Charles. He is very focused on providing the very best lesson he can and always explains things concisely. My saw a huge improvement in my playing ever since learning from him. Top notch quality Tutor!
