I provide the student with a learning methodology which is intended to support them. I adapt to their specific and unique learning style. I contextualize the knowledge through a multifaceted approach using visual aids, videos, reading comprehension, and textual information/materials. I break down the subject so that they can comprehend the learning objective and satisfy the requirement.
I have pursued an educational background in Archaeology, History, EAL, research, and program development. I enjoy engaging with people and supporting them to meet their goals and interests in life.
I initially completed a BA in Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of British Columbia in 2009. I later went on to complete an MA in 20th Century Conflict Archaeology at the University of Bristol in 2012. This involved historical research in addition to archaeological research. My dissertation focused on material culture of war and children who grew up during the Second World War in London, UK. I have a lot of volunteer work experience, including working as a volunteer on archaeological sites in western Canada, southwest England, and southeast England. I was part of an excavation of an early 20th century railroad camp in Myra Canyon British Columbia, a survey of roman agricultural sites in Bristol, a Historical Environmental Records survey of medieval crosses and cross sockets in north Somerset, research at the Imperial War Museum in London, and an excavation of Elizabethan garden trenches at Hanwell Castle in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
My teaching background includes teaching EAL and history to a variety of students in United Arab Emirates, Japan, the UK and Egypt. I have experience working in a multitude of environments: school classrooms, museums, offices, labs, archaeological sites, and construction sites. In my last position I worked as an Education Program Developer for the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in northern Alberta. In this job role I developed KG-12 palaeontology programs with the Assistant Curator and consulting vertebrate palaeontologist. These programs were written in accordance with Alberta education curriculum objectives making them accredited programs. I was also involved in lab demonstrations, bone-bed tours, gallery tours, exhibit design, and grant writing.
I am working towards completing an MEd Master of Education through Thompson Rivers University. I would like to become a school counsellor.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I taught at the same international school as Emma in the UAE about 10 years ago. We have since become firm friends and I recommend Emma highly. From what I know, she has lived and taught in Asia, Middle East and North Africa. This has provided her with invaluable experiences and understanding of different cultures. Emma combines the perfect combination of not only being intelligent, but also personable and empathetic towards others. And to add to this, she has a wonderful sense of humour! All vital traits needed to be a successful teacher.
Emma is awesome! We taught at the same school in Sharjah, UAE. She sees the best in people and is able to boost people's confidence by telling them what they are good at. This kind of encouragement is what every student needs! Emma builds on what people already know and breaks down difficult concepts into easily-understandable chunks. Emma genuinely wants to help her students learn and reach their full potential.
