About Sean
As an experienced tutor and teacher, I recognize that everyone learns differently. When introducing a topic, I focus on teaching through questioning, encouraging students to think critically and to become resilient when faced with a tricky question. Through this approach, students often find they can tackle any problem of they know the correct questions to ask themselves This approach also provides an opportunity for students to explain concepts themselves, as teaching others is one of the most effective ways to learn. This method has consistently helped students build confidence in their abilities while deepening their understanding of the material.
Every lesson is personalized to suit the individual needs of the student, meaning the style can vary. However, I find the following structure works well for a typical one-hour session:
Introduction and review: Address any challenges or misunderstandings from homework (up to 15 minutes).
Topic exploration: Introduce and explain new concepts, using examples and encouraging the student to take an active role (at least 40 minutes).
Homework setting: Assign tasks to consolidate learning and assess understanding (5 minutes).
I also provide exam preparation sessions focused on tackling practice questions to identify and address gaps in understanding. These sessions are designed to build strong exam techniques and problem-solving skills, ensuring you can effectively demonstrate your knowledge to an examiner.
