About Nathan

I just graduated college in December of 2024. I was a peer tutor throughout my entire 3.5 year college career, and I helped students one on one along with hosting large help sessions in the Academic support center. I became the #1 tutor at Maine Maritime Academy and increased the use of the Academic support center by about 50%. A majority of students came into the support center just for me because they had full confidence I would be able to help them in whatever they needed. On the nights I was working, maybe 10-15 students would come by, while when I wasn't it might only be 3-5. I also did private tutoring not through the Academy. I tutored a high school calculus student. After the semester was over, she requested me again to help her in physics. She received an A in both of those classes. A little information about me personally, I accepted a job right out of college in Mobile Alabama working as an engineer. I really love music and most outdoor activities, and also really enjoy spending my time volunteering for local ministries and churches. I am fresh to the Mobile area, and am excited to make an impact however I can. I am a very personable and fun person. I don't want tutoring sessions to just turn into another lecture, or have students view me as one of their teachers. I want our sessions to be interactive where the student feels completely comfortable asking anything they want, without any fear.

About the lesson

My teaching methods adjust based on the student. I believe the best way of learning math and physics is with practice, so my lessons would be centered around doing practice problems. I am completely open to the needs of the student. If just homework help is needed, I can do that. If the lessons in class just aren't making sense, I can come up with my own way of teaching the subjects that one might find a little easier to understand.

I believe my age sets me apart as a tutor. Because I am 21 and fresh out of the education system, I know the methods that are taught, and will not be confusing students by bringing up methods to solve a problem that are not used anymore.

I also believe I have found a good balance between helping a student and just doing their problems for them. Because I used to tutor my peers in college, many would just come into the academic support center looking for answers without wanting to understand how to arrive at the answer. I became very good at recognizing this, and would adjust how I taught these students to make them critical think, and try out a problem for themselves before just asking for the answer.

My lessons are for anyone in high school or college needing help in any math and physics subjects.
