About Abbey

I am a high school graduate from the LRSD french immersion program in Winnipeg. I am now studying at the french University in Winnipeg, MB. I have been in a french program for over 10 years and I was a honor roll student in my french immersion program during my four years of high school. I now play on a University sports team which is coached and played in french.
I have worked with children at summer day camps on many occasions. I have also volunteered for my community's elementary school as a track coach for the grade 7 and 8 team. I have coached for my previous soccer club and I am now coaching for a high school soccer team. I am now also working at a movie theater where I run birthday parties for children.

About the lesson

I have struggled with traditional teaching methods over my time in the public school system. My approach is molded to what the student prefers, but I myself am a visual yet structured learner which is how I try to teach my students. Understanding vs. memorizing is a huge factor for the success of the student.
I will go over with what they do not understand and I will try to re-explain in a way that makes sense to them. Following the explanation, I will get them to practice, and then have them explain it to me in a way that we both understand. I believe that it is easier to remember french vocabulary skills with a full understanding of what is being taught, not only memorization. This does take at least one session to evaluate, but I am certain that there is a way that will work for them.
Students from grades 1 to 9 are the students that I am able to tutor.
