About Flavia

My name is Flavia!
I am a young post-graduated from France, recently settled in New York City. I graduated with a BA in Anthropology and a MA in Audiovisual and Film Studies. French is my first language, as I grew up in Grenoble and did all my studies in Paris. I know a lot about French culture in general, and I have always loved to teach and tutor during my studies and professional positions: In fact I am an experienced school tutor with High School students and I conducted several Film Workshops with elementary school students. I am patient, result-oriented, energetic and attentive to details! I would love to help improve your French!

About the lesson

Here's some aspects of the effective method I am offering (for all levels of French Profiency):

1. We set ideal and accessible goals together before starting.
Also, I get to know your areas of interest, any special needs or expectations for the lessons!

2. We begin our customized lessons with progression steps to achieve the goals we set:
- Vocabulary: from introducing yourself to extended verbal skills in everyday life and field of interest (3, 10 or 30 words per session, for example) ;
- Grammar, spelling: it's difficult, but we face it! (1, 2 or 3 rules using learned vocabulary) ;
- Comprehension: we will work on the global comprehension with a variety of materials. Oral and written, but also pronunciation, because written words do not correspond to their oral pronunciation!
- Discussion: learn progressively to structure your sentences by practicing discussion in French. The best way to build a structured language is to be confronted to a real situation and speaker.

3. At each session, it's simple:
- We use a different and relevant material, adapted to you and your progression (a children's book, a comic strip, a game, a painting, a press article, a radio speech, a film clip, a debate with me) ;
- We discuss the context of this material in French, always in connection with French culture (history, food, current events, traditions) and/or areas of interests.

4. After a few sessions, French becomes simple, even in writing…
- You will be able to express yourself more precisely by having extended conversations in French with me, about many subjects, wathever the materials.
- Soon, writing will naturally be the next steps because you will graphically memorize the words you have learned to read and hear! But no worries for that, I have excellent French written skills :-).

Of course, it will first depend on your needs and your level, to which I will always gladly adapt!
