As a current teacher, I believe that each child is a unique individual that deserves to be part of a safe and caring atmosphere where they have the opportunity not only to grow intellectually, but also emotionally. I strongly believe that having the same opportunity to learn and succeed no matter what background someone comes from is very important. I hope to provide such opportunities to my future students. I strongly believe that in order to be an outstanding teacher, one must have a deep knowledge of the subject to be taught, be flexible, be organized, and be passionate. I think the primary goal of a teacher should be to guide the students as opposed to trying to act like the only source of knowledge. Being a teacher does not mean simply presenting material. As teachers, we need to ensure that we enable students to achieve and learn by providing them with the right resources, a positive learning environment, and atmosphere. We are there to facilitate learning, not to lecture.

As a tutor, I want to ensure that I can reach a variety of students. One strategy I use in the classroom to in working with different is students is to incorporate a wide selection of activities that cover a variety of learning styles. As a teacher, I believe it is very important to be aware of how every student learns best. Although working one on one with a student is effective in determining what their learning style is, there is not always the time to do so. One strategy I would use in my classroom is to hand out a questionnaire or survey on the first day of class asking how they learn best. To ensure that students with all learning styles could be successful, I would try to incorporate activities that cover all three learning styles. I believe that students learn best when a variety of teaching techniques for each lesson, so one strategy I would use is to use different instructional approaches. For example, if I were to teach new vocabulary, I would first present it in a visual and auditory manner, while trying to make connections between the new terms and what the students already know using a variety of instructional tools. I would then have the students work on group and individual hands-on activities to practice the vocabulary. Finally, I would review and use repetition strategies throughout the session to maximize student retention.
