About Marta

Bonjour! I'm Marta. I'm a French native speaker, highly experienced in teaching French as a Foreign Language, both in private and community-led settings. Specialised in French conversation, I have been helping students to polish their conversation skills to reach their true level of fluency. I graduated from Glasgow University with a First-Class Honours degree in History of Art and Theatre Studies (MA) and I love to incorporate art-related topics into my lesson plans when students share my interests! I occasionally offer lessons on a pay-what-you-can basis. If funds constitute a barrier preventing you from accessing language classes, please get in touch. Requests for home tutoring will need to be discussed and confirmed first.

About the lesson

My main goal is to adapt to your individual needs and create a programme tailored to help YOU thrive on your language-learning journey. Whether you’d like to dive deeply into specific topics to boost your confidence and fluency in spoken French, or seek more structure to organise the knowledge you already have, I am here to help. Where to start? A chat about your interests and goals is the perfect way to devise an achievable and motivating plan together! After discussing our game plan and evaluating your level with a short quiz, I will design lessons centred on your objectives and the specific topics or situations of your choice. I like to teach French in context, using engaging conversations, thought-provoking articles, and creative games that activate related grammatical rules and help you learn to express your opinions with confidence and ease. To support your learning, I’ll provide short tasks to test your understanding and regularly review previous lessons. I encourage my students to keep a ‘grammar journal’ - a handy resource to keep essential tools and concepts easily accessible. We'll also use flashcards, mind maps, and spaced repetition which are effective to allow your mind to make connections between ideas and retain them long-term! I teach learners of any level and any age!

Perfect! Marta is an excellent language tutor! Our sessions are always well planned and organised, she is patient and communicative, and does a great job of checking my understanding. One particular strength that comes across in her teaching is Marta’s intuitive grasp of the French language and language learning in general which is perhaps rooted in her being fluent in three languages: English, French and Polish. I feel I have significantly developed my French speaking, listening, and reading skills under Marta’s tutelage, and I have had a lot of fun doing so! Marta’s passion and enthusiasm meant I always looked forward to our sessions and found joy in improving my French. Thanks Marta!

Marta helped me with last-minute preparations for my DELF exam. She was very practical and systematic; we quickly identified gaps in my knowledge and worked on my weakest skills without any faff. The materials she provided were tailored to what I needed and it allowed me to organise my knowledge effectively. She also approaches teaching with a lot of humour so the preparation, however intense, felt smooth and exciting :)
